My grandson played with my 4th generation iPod touch and the phone icon and contacts icon are gone. I have gone to settings and done the "reset all settings" and "reset home screen layout" with no success. I also did a hard reset. No luck. Help?

Well... I did not know that iPod Touches have a "Phone" app. Are you sure the phone app was on your iPod and not some other iDevice? The Contacts app is always on the first page or the first app on the second page (judging by which iOS you have" The only other thing I could say is you put them in a folder and forgt they were in there.

Try doing a Spotlight search for the Contacts app.
Read this for doing a search:

(Skip to the section for Spotlight on iOS)

(Note that my links to other pages may promote my organization, and this should not be taken as an endorsement by Apple)
