Q: Can't upgrade software

I have OS 10.5 installed, but cannot install the software upgrades (OS10.5.8 combined upgrade). I can download it, but when the computer then attempts to install it, after a minute or so it just hangs. Every time. I have plenty of free space.

Can anyone advise?

That is really useful. Thanks. I bought the disc from my (very good) Mac repair shop as I could not find my original software discs. I do have the 10.4 disc still if that's any use? Can I use that?

Well, yes, but likely it'll require you to Erase everything to Install 10.4, then upgrade with this Disc to get to 10.5 again.

I managed to find the original Leopard disc and repaired my hard drive and permissions as you outlined. That is all done but the software update problem remains. I am trying to download it again and start afresh. If I download it, will the computer automatically try and install this file, rather than any old potentially corrupt version that may be on my computer? I am not sure where it looks to find the file.

Thank you for your help so far.
