Mac App StoreHave you had any trouble downloading any other updates?
Had the same problem with MS Office among other downloads and managed to isolate problem to the IPv6 setting that was turned to Automatic. I turned it Off, restarted and the problem went away. Go to System Preferences > Network. Select Advanced and look under the TCP/IP tab check the IPv6 setting.

Feb 6, 2012 11:44 AM in response to Patrick Abuzeniby youngkristen,Let me first say, I'm COMPLETELY new to a Mac, and I pretty much suck on PCs as well.....
Even though the page that I clicked to download was blank, I noticed the arrow at the top right of the broswer and saw something was happening. Once it finished and looked at the dock and saw the new "things" and clicked on them until it installed. I have no clue how to get rid of the things, but I'll make a One to One appointment to hopefully learn more! I hope I didn't waste your time.

Mac App Storeyoungristen, no trouble at all and you certainly did not waste my time. I suspect you're running the latest OS while I am still on 10.5.8. Yeah! I know I am way behind but I have way too many Macs to upgrade so I am staying put for now.
I suspect that thing that you call "things" that you want to get rid of and that they somehow end up in the dock is probably your downloads ending up in your downloads folder. Its not really the download folder but a visual link to it. Anytime you download something from the web it ends up in the downloads folder and you get some sort of a notification (on 10.5.8, the folder jumps up and down) that the download is complete. You should be able to drag whatever is in your download folder anywhere you wish. And if it is a download image (such as an application or software update) you can double click it and then the magic of the OS will guide you wherever you need to be. Hope this helps until you get your 1 on 1.
