Q: My iphoto library has disappeared. How do I find it?

Hi

When I click on iPhoto it asks me to select a library.

What iPhoto library do you want iPhoto to use?  To open, iPhoto needs a photo library.  Select a library from the list etc.

There is just a blank box.  I have a folder on my desktop called iPhoto Library (don't know how it got there) but it only contains

file://localhost/Users/amandaking/Desktop/iPhoto%20Library/AlbumData.xml

file://localhost/Users/amandaking/Desktop/iPhoto%20Library/AlbumData2.xml

file://localhost/Users/amandaking/Desktop/iPhoto%20Library/iPhoto.ipspot

file://localhost/Users/amandaking/Desktop/iPhoto%20Library/iPod%20Photo%20Cache/

file://localhost/Users/amandaking/Desktop/iPhoto%20Library/Metadata%20Backup/

How do I find my iPhoto library?  Does anyone know?

Thanks

OK TD, but can you explain "how" I imported one Library to another?  Please.  That way, if I know how I did it, I'll not do it again.  But since I have no clue how I did that, I'll probably keep making that mistake.

    Any help is really appreciated!

I'm afriad I wasn't there so I don;t know what you did. You report restoring it from the trash but I guess there were a couple of extra steps in there somewhere.

My iPhoto library disappeared as well and of course they are also not on TM.  They are all in iPhoto.  How can I get them to my library on my hard drive?

How big is the iPhoto Library as shown in the Finder?

    Highlight001.jpg

    or

    Finder001.jpg

Is it large enough to suggest the photo files are inside but just not being displayed?

If it is then try the two fixes below in order as needed:

    Fix #1

Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.

    iP93rebuild.PNG

Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.

    Fix #2

Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library

1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.

2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.

3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.

4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.

5 - Click on the Create button.

Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

This is what my finder is looking like, I have put in the photos from my iphone - around 700 photos but I did have over 2000.  It looks like iphoto is missing from my finder menu doesn't it?

That's the iPhoto application.  Go to your Pictures folder and check the iPhoto Library file there.

See the file named iPhoto Library that is 5+ GB in size?  That's your library.  It's big enought to contain your photos.  Therefore try the following fixes on it in order as needed:

    Fix #1

Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.

    iP93rebuild.PNG

What you need to do is click on Cancel and click on the existing library at the left.  Go to the Library menu at the top and select Rebuild Library option:
