Instead of being a smart alick like gdgmacguy, I'll give a helpful answer.
If you're using a 3GS (or even a newer model) your battery is probably at the end of its life. The cost to replace is $79 according to another forum I read on a similar issue. Take it to an Apple genius! Best wishes to you.

I would recommend that you turn down the brightness on your phone and maybe even turn it all the way off if you dont need it
If you don't want to turn it off you could turn on airplane mode that might help aswell

settings > general > background app refresh -- turn to off
settings > accessibility > reduce motion -- turn to on
settings > general > autolock -- set to 1 minute
pull up from bottom of screen turn brightness to 35%
There ya go, don't expect it to improve vastly but it will improve
