Syncing contacts from iphone to laptop where both devices have different lists

Some of my Contacts are stored on Outlook on my computer, however others are stored only on my iphone. How do I synch the two so both Outlook and iphone end up with the same set of contacts? Scared to synch in case one set is wiped out in the process. Also, can I do this without synching music?

Make a backup of both contact lists before starting. On you phone download and use the free app My Contacts Backup. This will backup your iPhone contacts to a file as an attachment to an email. Send this email to yourself. If necessary, you can open it later on your phone and re-import your contacts again. On your computer, use Outlook's export function to export a backup of your Outlook Contacts.

Next, before connecting your iPhone, open iTunes on your computer and disable automatic syncing (iTunes Preferences>Devices>check "Prevent iPods, iPhones...from syncing automatically". Now connect your phone and go to the Music page and uncheck Sync Music if you don't want to sync your music, and select to sync contacts with Outlook on the Info page. Now sync your phone and you should get a Merge prompt, which you should accept. When you're done you should get identical merged contacts on both your phone and Outlook.

The following steps can help you:

1

Connect your iPhone to the computer via a USB cable

First of all, install and run Coolmuster Data Recovery for iPhone iPad iPod on your computer. Use a USB cable to connect your iPhone to the computer. After detected, your iPhone will be shown in the primary window, like the screenshot shows below.

2

Export iPhone contacts to computer

In the left sidebar, click "Contacts" to show the contacts on your iPhone memory card and accounts, like iCloud, Exchange and Yahoo!. In the contact window, choose the contacts that you'd like to transfer to the computer. Click "Import/Export" > "Export Selected Contacts" or "Export All Contacts" > "to a Single vCard File" or "to Multiple vCard Files". Then the file browser window pops up. Browse your computer to find a place to save the exported contacts.

If you want to transfer contacts with iTunes, follow the following steps:

1. From the Home screen, select Settings.

2. Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then scroll down and press Import SIM contacts. This will copy any phone numbers stored on the SIM to the memory of the iPhone.

3. Now connect your iPhone to your PC using a USB cable. If iTunes doesn't automatically open, press Start and select the program from the list.

4. Once iPhone Transfer has opened, press the iPhone icon that appears on the left-hand side of the iTunes window.

5. From the options displayed, click Info And then tick the box next to Sync Address Book and Contacts.

6. Now press Sync at the bottom of the screen and all your iPhone contacts will be copied to your PC.

Hi, JoBrem

iCloud is useful for a lot of things and backing up your iPhone's data is one of them. Included in the data and files that you can safely keep using iCloud are your contacts. The following instructions detail how to transfer contacts from iPhone to computer.

Step 1. On your iPhone, tap on Settings. On the "Settings" menu, select "iCloud". You will then be taken to the iCloud Settings.

Step 2. Enable the "Contacts" setting and should you be informed that you'll have to merge your contacts to iCloud, tap "Merge".

Step 3. Now on your computer, go to iCloud.com and login with your iCloud credentials.

Step 4. Once you're logged in, click on the Contacts icon to access your address book and all iCloud features for the contacts you've uploaded.

Step 5. In the address book, click on the cog icon at the lower-left portion, click "Select All", and "Export vCard" afterwards.

Step 6. iCloud will then give you a vCard that you can store on your computer. It contains all the contacts you've uploaded to iCloud using your iPhone.
