After updating to 10.7.3 WiFi does not reconnect after waking up from sleep

I bought my iMac 21" i5 late 2011 before christmas, and it came with 10.7.2 and never had any problem with WiFi, but last week I installed the 10.7.3 update via the Software Update menu under Apple logo, the update was about 500~600mb.

Now I leave my iMac turned on and after when I come back it slept, I click on my magic mouse like I always do, it wake up, but the WiFi is disconnected, if I click on the WiFi icon, it is acctually not turned off it says on first item Wi-Fi: On, and show my Wifi network and others, it is just not associated. It I click on my network it connect and everything works. But this is really annoying me.

I finally found a reliable solution. You fix everything in 1 minute. I used the network kext from osx 10.6.3 and installed it. Now I have no more issues. Full wireless n usage with sleep etc. Just download the package from here and drag and drop .kext file on the kext utility. Restart and everthing is ok. Earlier solutions used the same method but with later kext files. This version is 3.1. And it works!

I pressed the CMD+R on startup and selected "Reinstall Mac OS X", after almost a whole day of waiting,

I'm back on 10.7.2 and now the WiFi works fine.

I had not to do any backup of my files and neither time machine, and all my apps, data and documents still there.

I do not intend to stay on this version forever, but I'm expecting that apple fix this of 10.7.3 issue on 10.7.4.

levi89, that confirms my previous guess about the kext issue, I not tried this but I will keep a backup of the IO80211Family.kext of the OSX 10.7.2

After having used the new installation of Lion 10.7.3 over the weekend, I can tell you this:

1. The install-procedure did not cause any loss of data or files (why should it?), and

2. The issue with the wifi not connecting after awakening from seep is still there!

We just have to waiut for a new version that cures the problem.

The hardware: 21,5" iMac (late 2011) with an i7 CPU and magic trackpad; the wifi-station is a La Fonera 2n

Carlo TD, your desire to support is nice. But you do not have a solution, and have not posted a solution that works for the people experiencing this problem. Like you say, you don't have any trouble connecting, so you don't really have hands on experience solving the problem. This is a problem with the 10.7.3 update and other than a workaround it can only be fixed by another update.

Also for people who were not experiencing problems with 10.7.2, to roll back for the time being is perfectly logical and does not mean anything was "screwy when you upped". All it means is that something is wrong with the 10.7.3 update. Do not think that just because you are not experiencing any problems we must be doing something wrong. I talked with Apple Care, made it to the very top of their support chain, and the guy himself suggested rolling back to 10.7.2 as a temporary solution. Meanwhile he let me know the engineers are aware of this problem. Hopefully they will fix it soon....

I have been with Apple a long time. And what most people do not realize is that their updats are for the most part are delvered to them in a seqential order and must be installed in that sequence. That is why it is important to update your system when new updates become available. Telling a person to revert to some version, will mess up their permissions. Of course, just because some one high up from Apple says "sure, it is probably better to go to 10.7.2 if your having trouble," is not an absoulte, (heck some of the people at the genius bar - i know more than them) ... it only creates other issues especially when new updates come in. I have even seen some people suggest installing a combo update after they have installed 10.7.3... what is the purpose? I seriously doubt that everyone is having the "same" type of problems.

My advice, do not downgrade anything, and make sure you have the latest firmware for your routers, or drivers for your modem, and the latest Lion operating system and adjust your network so it is not using b/g especially if you have more than a few wifi devices connecting to it, and if all else, use the Recovery Disk Assistant .

The issue is automatically assumed to be 10.7.3. But with everyone having differnet systems, different ISP's, modems, drivers for their modems, various countries of origin, and people trying to use more wifi devices than what their current system allows ... it is very difficult to assess what is really causing the issue. Instead if you belive there is an issue , then there must be a common piece to the puzzle. If Apple finds an issue - they will fix it.

When you say "you have been with Apple a long time", what do you mean?

Because basically everything you wrote after that is riduculous.

Updates can break things. It happens. I have been "with" IT on the systems administration side of things for a long time and I've seen it happen plenty. However, when an update breaks something it very clearly shouldn't, those fixes should come very quickly. Something like coming out of sleep and automatically connecting to a preffered network which worked perfectly well on a previous version (with Apple having complete control of drivers and hardware) shouldn't happen. And if it does, a fix, however small, had better be prompt.

The last paragraph of basically blaming everything else reeks of pretty typical fanboyism.

You are absolute wrong by writing.....

" Telling a person to revert to some version, will mess up their permissions."

The time macine is not like system restore on windows

The time machine wipes all the data from HD. If you had problems with permissions you will still have after the revert.

You have suggested a fix but for others do not work. The others who still have problems are not idiots !

It is a problem that APPLE must already have fix !!

It is not router problem my friend Carlos !! how come and by pressing the power button (and not wireless mouse/keyboard) the wifi connects for everyone?

We use the same router you know ! Same drivers

Only this indicates that is a lion 10.7.3 update problem !

We read books about Apple, that it is a great company, with devoted top techs ... and so what ? the problem should have been already resolved with a quick fix , and not wait the 10.7.4 to come.😠😠

Here anyone tells his opinion.... but you want to be "I know everything" guy..... This is bad, this is fanboysm ......

I have the same problem with a mid-2011 iMac since upgrading to 10.7.3. I have tried the 10.7.3 combo but it did not help.

As a temporary work-around until this has been fixed, I have set up an Airport Express in "extend network" mode and connected it to the iMac with an Ethernet cable. So at least I now have a wireless connection from the location of my iMac to the router.

Same here. Newly purchased mid-2011 2.7 i5 iMac worked great until upgrading to 10.7.3 at which time WiFi would not reconnect after waking up from sleep mode. I tried most of the settings recommendations on numerous post sites and downloaded Client Combo. The only way I can get a WiFi connection from sleep mode is by selecting the Power button before turning on remote mouse. This works every time. Thanks to everyone who submitted this temporary solution. Feedback submitted to Apple to keep them aware the increasing number of complaints.
