Why can't I take pictures with my 3GS with the IOS 5 software upgrade?

I recently upgraded my Iphone 3GS with the IOS 5.0.1 software and now I can't take pictures or videos. I can still view pics that are sent to me. I'm hoping to find a way to restore the capability without losing all my contacts. Has anyone else had to deal with this issue?
