Bot virus on Mac Book Pro

I have a 13 inch Mac Book Pro running Lion. I got an email from Comcast that my Mac is possibly infected by a Bot virus and they want me to instal Norton Security etc. Can Lion be affected by Bots? I am kind of hesitant to instal the software as I used to have Norton on my old Dell pc and it was always needing updates and constantly downloading info.

Comcast does regularly send out those notices to ALL its customers; however Comcast ONLY offers the PC version of Norton, NOT the Mac version. So you actually have no decision to make. For the record though, those users on this Forum who have installed "Norton AV for Mac" have regretted it in that their systems slowed to a crawl. Plus, there have been NO successful viruses that affected OSX so far in the last 10 years. Trojans, and some other malware, yes, but those generally required you to select "Yes" when asked to install the malware.

Hope this helps 🙂
