Will Apple have an 4g upgrade for the iphone?
Will Apple have an 4g upgrade for the iphone?
For the 4S? No. No hardware on any existing iPhone can be upgraded. If and when Apple supports 4G, will require the purchase of a new phone, if you want 4G.
After the 5.1 update the 4S apparently is now a 4G phone. Just saw it this morning in Baltimore where AT&T has very good coverage and has rolled out their 4G network. I ran the Speedtest app and saw the fastest download speed that I've ever seen on the cell network. I don't know that this proves anything but it is nice. My wife's iPhone 4 which has also been updated to 5.1 is only showing the 3G symbol so I guess it is not capable. of 4G.
dude your being fooled your iphone 4s is not a 4g iphone !! i was on the phone for hour and a half with a manager and have it on recorder he stated that the iphone 4s is not a 4g iphone and that the only 4g device they make is the new ipad that just came out ! appl went on to say that is under investigation and that theres been a overwhelming amout of phone call on this issue. he went on to state that it is a serious matter becouse we the people r being mislead ! so with out him sayin i think att snuck a low blow in ! he did state apple did know there was a carrier change but did not konw att was tyrying to say iphone 4s is now a 4g iphone after almost a year of being out ! we need to make a stand this is bull crap we need to stop this !
"4G" has no meaning any more other than as a marketing term. AT&T and several other carriers consider HSPA+ 4G. All this does is bring the 4S, when connected to an HSPA+ network, into parity with the rest of the smart-phones out there from other vendors.
The original definition for "4G" called for 100Mbps downstream speeds when mobile and 1Gbps downstream speeds when stationary. Technically, there isn't a network on the planet that is "4G".
but other phone makers dont put 4g for hspa+ there phone markings is H+ not 4g ! hspa + is not 4g. plus iphone 4s is not a 4g iphone apple stated that already. when iphone 5 comes out do u think apple will be happy by not being able to call it the first ever iphone on 4g. i think they will apple will submitt a update to change this non since att is trying to pull
Some do. And much of the packaging and marketing materials use the term "4G", especially in the US. The standards body has explicitly told AT&T and T-Mobile that they can refer to HSPA+ as "4G". Take the issue up with them.
The 4G was put on at AT&T's request because they have managed to convince the mobile phone consortium (or what ever the official title is) that they satisfy the requirements for 4G, even though it is HSPA+

Don't care. Whatever you call it, since the 5.1 update, since the "4G" appeared my data speeds using the various speed test apps have, on average, more than doubled in MY area. Don't know what conditions are like in your area but if you're unhappy complain to your provider.
I'm enough of a nerd and obsessive enough to have constantly run those speed tests since I got the first iPhone. You could probably ask AT&T for verification, I've certainly used that Mark The Spot app of theirs often enough when I believed my data connection was too slow. But whether it's because of the software update alone or a change in AT&T's network in my area I don't know but I am happy. Now perhaps the Speedtest app people and Apple, and AT&T are all in cahoots together and just maybe Neo really is the ONE. Don't care!
No I'll take it up with apple it's apples software and apples Iphone so ur saying that I shouldn't have a problem with my iPhone 4s stating I'm on a 4g network when there is no 4g with in a 1000 miles from me ? It's apples software not AT&T so apple going to play AT&T dirty games now ? That's fine u can call HSPA + 4g but I live no where near 4g towers ! So it looks to me it's just a symbol put there ! All I see was done was 3G was takin off and 4g was put in 3G place !
Plus from apples own mouth call apple if u don't beleive me iPhone 4s is not a 4g iPhone and does not contain the software to do so ! So she. U say ur speeds have gotten better from the 5.1 software update u sound like a retard because the iPhone can have all the software updates it wants iPhone 4s does not have the hardware to pull 4g LTE !! So trust me the 5.1 didn't make ur iPhone run faster on AT&T network the software update 5.1 only was a carrier change of name period ! Call apple they will comfirm this ! Enough said
Guess I took the red pill or was it the blue one? Don't care! My experience got a lot better!
I agree. I don't care what you call it, but it is noticeably faster. The speed tests confirm this. As far as I'm concerned, I upgraded to iOS 5.1 and I get faster downloads. Why complain?
No complaints here. Those pills really are effective!
My iPhone 4S has 4G capable network on T-Mobile..
Yes, your iPhone 4s might have a 4G capable network on T-Mobile, but the fact still remains that you DON'T have a 4G capable phone. If you want to make full use of 4G on T-Mobile, then you'll have to buy an iPhone 5 and not a 4s.
