Why I cannot get my Gmail on my iPhone?

Hello everyone,

I have an iPhone 4 that I bought last year. I added my Gmail and Hotmail accounts into it since the very beginning and everything was going OK, but suddenly today my Gmail account just decided to stop working!!!

Every time I open the Mail application, my iPhone shows a message that says: «Cannot Get Mail. The user name or password for "Gmail" is incorrect». The funny thing is that I double-checked my user name & password and both of them are correct. Besides, I'm able to have access to my Gmail account on my MacBook Pro and iMac, even on the Safari application on the iPhone but not on the Mail one!!!

I was so desperate a while ago that I even erased my Gmail address in order to re-enter it on my iPhone. I re-entered it and the same annoying message appears all the time!!!

I really do not know what else to do. Can you help me, please?

I also had a same problem and Julian's solution worked like a magic. I have three diffrent gmail accounts set up on my iPhone. I keep receiving a message "cannot get mail" on just one of them. It works ramdomly once a while and I really could not understand why.

What does it mean when it states

"Sign in using the application you want to authorize access to your account within the next ten minutes."? Does this mean one is to attempt to get into email on the iPhone by selecting the "Mail" button on the home screen? What is "the application you want to authorize access to your account"? What application is being referred to here? I've tried opening up email on the iPhone via the Mail button, but that does not work. I still get the "cannot get mail..." message.

I have had this problem, especially on a New iPhone, or setting up a Gmail account for the first time.

https://www.google.com/accounts/UnlockCaptcha Is the only thing that works, when I have proven that the password is correct, and I have treid clearing cookies and history.
