record voice and burn to cd

I teach adult literacy. I want to record myself reading simple passages and burn this to cd for the students so they can listen and read along. I did this once on my old pc but I can't figure out how to do it on Mac. Can anybody help me with this?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Simplest way to make a basic recording is to use QuickTime Player. Open the 'File' menu and select 'New Audio Recording'. Once recorded you can trim silences from the beginning and end. If you need more advanced editing facilities consider Audacity, it's a free download. Once you have your recordings import them into iTunes and create a playlist consisting of all the audio files you want to burn to CD, then right-click the playlist and select 'Burn Playlist to Disk'.

CD-R stands for CD-recordable - these are write once, having been created they are like a purchased CD, i.e. they cannot be written to again; CD-RW stands for CD-rewriteable - which means they can be erased and rewritten similar to the old cassette tapes (if you go back that far!). Many audio CD players struggle with CD-RW so the safest bet is to go for CD-R for your purpose.

Weird!!! It just works on mine, but I notice you're using Leopard OS X 10.5. Maybe an upgrade to Snow Leopard or even Lion would do the trick. I never used Leopard, I started on Macs with SL and I've never been prompted upgrade QuickTime.

Audacity is free and not as intimidating as it may appear. Basic use is pretty straightforward.

I don't know if Quicktime 7 has this feature. If it does, it is a free download from Apple and would solve kjgpinelake's problem without any expenditure. There was a time when I had both versions (because a third party app required 7) but I had to keep the in separate folders due to the OS prohibiting an older version being put into the applications folder with 10 in there. But that is just a nit.

Ciao.
