My iPad is dead to the world. As far as I can tell it is off, it wont turn back on (even though it has been connected to power), and doesn't respond to hard resets. Connection to iTunes yields no response (iTunes doesn't recognize the device) and plugging cable in while holding the home button also does nothing. What haven't I tried and what do I do now?

try another computer and cable sometimes the cables break
I plugged the cable into my iPod and it works just fine though I will try using another cord just in case.

Google for "DFU mode" and try that.
So I found an article that told me to hold the power and home button for 10sec and then release the power (but hold the home) for an additional 3-5sec. Did that, no dice again :/ any ideas for what to do next?
Saw a video about dfu mode but it said that itunes had to be able to recognize the device. That may be the problem cuz my ipad's not turning on at all even when I plug it into the computer and open itunes.

Even this one from that page...
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the steps in this article to force the device into recovery mode.
Yes. Never could got any response (including the little battery charging picture) to come up.
