Can I upgrade my Processor Name: PowerPC G5 (1.1) Processor Speed: 2.3 GHz
How do I upgrade? Is this a simple as buying a new cpu?

No. It is not simple.
Allan
Can it be done?
Of course anything can be done given enough time and effort.
You did say simple hence my answer of no because from everything I have read it is anything but simple.

Off to the Apple store and spend a grand? I have a macbook but spending 5grand every few years is out of the question.
It can be done only in the sense that, if you know what you are doing, you can build a computer from scratch.
There is no upgrade path whatsoever for the CPU. You may be able to utilize the power supply, maybe, the case, the hard drive. Then you would need to cannibalize the parts from a Mac Pro to get amother board, logic board, processor, etc., and invest a lot of time and labor.
From a practical view, no, it cannot be done. Period.
Can it be done?
Yes, but not worth it, G5s of most any speed have become really cheap.
I'd be hard pressed buying a new Mac... not just bevause I'm broke, but the insane Monitor connections on the new ones require 100s to thousands to overcome, Lion/10.7.x is the most useless OS I have, so for a new Mac I could only consider an iMac, whilst the 27" has desierable vertical rez, the Horizonalt is of no use for any wesites like this one that caters to iPhones & such, (see all that wasted white space to the left & right? And the 21" iMac has less vertical rez than my Atari TT/030!??
So, anyway, I'd have to look for a 2007 iMac/24" which has at least 1920*1200 rez which matches yje new 21" Horizontally, but beats it vertically.
The Mini while faster than any Mac I have, costs more than an iMac by the time you add all the things not incuded on an iMac.
Mac Pros are outrageously priced.
Laptop options are too theftable & prone to problems for me to even think about.

"A grand" wouldn't get you anywhere near the ball park at the Apple store, even if they were willing to undertake such a radical conversion, which I'm willing to bet they wouldn't even contemplate. 😀
Thanks guys,
Life in the future is just more expensive.

Thanks for your help!!!!!
I have swapped processors with my dual core g5, wasn't too terribly hard just had to disasseble the whole computer. I had a 2.0 dual core that had a damaged case from UPS so I ordered a empty case to throw everything in. While on ebay looking I came across a 2.3 dual core processor for $50.00 so I ordered it, not having any idea if the sockets would workor anything.
Turns out the 2.0, and 2.3 share the same socket, works with no problem, (actually has the highest Geekbench score at the moment-http://browse.geekbench.ca/user/505_pike/profile).
Taking a g5 apart isn't much harder than a normal computer, just be gentle and pay attention to how things came apart. I still have my dual core 2.0 processor if your interested.
Interesting post, 505_pike, but from the OP it appears that TreeGuruBob was looking to upgrade his CPU to an Intel (Mac Pro) processor, presumably so he could run Snow Leopard or Lion. In any event, the replies he got were based on that proposition.
I wouldn't have expected to see much of a noticeable difference going from a 2.0 to a 2.3 processor, so I would be very interested in hearing about your actual experience in this regard.
BTW, I also had to replace a case damaged by UPS. 😝
United Catapult Delivery:
Power Macintosh G5 Dual Core (2.0))... Geekbench: 1814/1882
Power Macintosh G5 Dual Core (2.3)... Geekbench: 2082/2163
Perhaps there was some CPU problem with the 2.0s???
Thanks guys but it is my dual 2.3GHz that is not acceptable anymore for some reason it will not handle the programs that apple wants me to run and canon with my new camera.
I need to upgrade my dual 2.3 to what ever will work.

Recent Apple APPs only run on IntelMacs, not any PPC Macs like G3, G4, or G5s. 😟
To run those APPs you need a new iMax, Mini, or Mac Pro.
To give you an idea...
iMac G5/1.8 20-Inch... Geekbench: 985
Power Macintosh G5 1.8 (PCI-X)... Geekbench: 1047
Power Macintosh G4 1.42 DP (FW 800)... Geekbench: 1224
Power Macintosh G5 Dual Core (2.0))... Geekbench: 1814/1882
Power Macintosh G5 Dual Core (2.3)... Geekbench: 2082/2163
Power Macintosh G5 "Quad Core" (2.5)... Geekbench: 3316/3594
Mac mini "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 (Mid-2010)... Geekbench: 3307/3635
iMac "Core i5" 2.5 21.5-Inch (Mid-2011)... Geekbench: 7241/7970
iMac "Core i5" 2.7 27-Inch (Mid-2011)... Geekbench: 7844/8565
iMac "Core i7" 3.4 27-Inch (Mid-2011)... Geekbench: 11648/12651
Mac Pro "Twelve Core" 2.66 (2010/Westmere)... Geekbench: 20294/22605

Personally, I would not consider that a significant difference in performance that would be enough justification to go through the trouble and expense of upgrading the processor.
From the OP's last post it is abundantly clear to me he has been talking about upgrading to an Intel CPU all along.

That was precisely my understanding of the thrust of your original post. You need an Intel CPU in order to run Snow Leopard and/or Lion. Thank you for verifying that.
