Bit nervous about exposure whilst on the Internet - do I need anti virus/anti malware software on my iPhone 4s?

No. If your iPhone hasn't been hacked or jailbroken then you do not need anti virus or malware software.

You can't save anything, from the internet, on a non-jailbroken iPhone but a pic.

If you haven't, or allowed someone to modify your iOS then you are safe that it hasn't been hacked.
