I'm having a similar issue, where my time machine backups "start" at about 6 months old. Time Machine seems to be backing up without issue during this time, but nothing is available to restore in the timeline. Did you get any resolution on the issue?
Also, I noted that in Time Machine preferences, my "Oldest Backup" date is one day after where my time machine backups start showing in the Time Machine "star wars" interface.
