why don't wordpress sites load on my macbook pro?

When im at home, wordpress sites do not load up on my macbook pro. It doesn't matter which browser i'm using they simply never load. there are no error messages. this happens whether i am connected via wifi, or wired into the modem. its the same thing.

when i am away from home on another internet connection the same pages load perfectly.

other computers in the house, including my friend's macbook pro can load the same sites perfectly also. it makes no sense.

I have tried to empty the cache's, checked my security settings to make sure there are no firewalls or anything, but nothing has helped.

anyone any ideas of anything else i can try or why on earth this would be happening. i really need to use wordpress on a daily basis from home!

thanks

Jonny

You say they dont work at home... Do these sites work when the same machine is on a different network? If so, that suggests that it is somehow related to the network and not the machine. War that might be, though, I'm not sure. Are you unable to connect to the server, or do you just get a blank page, or what? And are these sites hosted on the Wordpress site, or on your own sites?

Hi thanks for the response. Yes, the date and time are correct.

these sites are basically any websites with wordpress.com in the address. so almost all blogs.

yes, they usually work when the same machine is on a different network. however, similar machines can access the same sites no problem on the same home network.

i just get a blank page and the loading thing spins round in the corner of the browser. if im very lucky a kind of very basic jumbled text version of the page loads.

i am going to update to osx lion, do you think this could help?

so annoying!

It's very unlikely that updating your system will help a problem like this.

A couple things to try... first, create a new user on your machine and log in to that account, then try accessing those sites. If they work fine, there's something screwed up with your user account. (The trick will be figuring out what that is!)

If that doesn't help, reboot in safe mode by holding down the shift key while starting up (you can let go when the Apple logo appears). This disables all third-party software and clears certain caches. Does the problem persist? If not, but it comes back after rebooting normally, you have some third-party software that is causing the problem. (Perhaps an internet security app that is misbehaving?)

Also, try changing your DNS settings to use either Google or OpenDNS servers. Instructions should be found through links on either of those pages.

BTW, what happens when you visit my self-hosted WordPress blog (see below)? Does it work fine? If so, it's related to the wordpress.com domain rather than to WordPress itself.
