iTunes Error 7 (Windows error 127) after installing iTunes 64-bit for Windows

After installing iTunes 64-bit for Windows (latest build), I get an error pop-up saying:

iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes

Error 7 (Windows error 127)

I've gone thru the uninstall, reboot and reinstall process three or four times now. Still nothing.

Furthermore, after clicking okay to the error, it continues to pop up on it's own every 45 seconds or so.

There was one other error I came across after trying to launch iTunes after installation.

See both error messages here:

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)

Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Then head into your Uninstall a Program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and click "Repair".

Does iTunes launch properly now?

I am so over Apple right now - the last couple of updates wouldnt' install & now, for two weeks I have tried every flaming fix I can find on this site and the internet and none (and I do mean none) of them work!!!! Ive even paid for software programs to allegedly fix (yes I realise ive been had) and technicians to check over my system in case its a computer problem and now additional to error 127 coming up, I get a new message coming up "Service "Apple Mobile Device Service" failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privledges to star system services". Seriously....seriously?!!!! Apple - get your s*it together and pick up your game - I spend a lot of money with you, but your product falls way below expectations of late.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version, or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues, or for compatibility with third party software on 64-bit systems.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

If the issue persists and you have a 64-bit system try the for older video cards version which is a 64-bit installer for mostly 32-bit code, similar to all 64-bit versions of iTunes up to 12.1.

Removing all components is not the issue as not all of them install to begin with. when installing i get the following message: Could not open key: UNKNOWN\Components\DA....1EE8\54c...A7E. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel. then I get the Windows 127 error message after I try cancelling the install (cancel x3, sometimes have to go to task manager to do so). It wont progress at all & stalls. then if i go into program files, bonjour will be there but that's it, no other programs. So the help with the specific program hierarchy uninstall process doesn't help as half the programs are missing. I tried the registry access help as well, no change. Have since done a windows update (no change to itunes install), cant tell you how many times Ive restarted the laptop, have run ccleaner and tech utilities, spam & virus checks

The tip specifically mentions that you need to uninstall the components that are present and will uninstall, then delete the named folders and reboot.

Installing the components one at a time may work.

I think you found this, but for "Could not open key/write value" errors when reinstalling try b boir's user tip:

"Could not open key: UNKNOWN\Components\[LongStringOfLettersAndNumbers]\
[LongStringOfLettersAndNumbers]" error messages when installing iTunes for Windows
.

The technique can be applied to the branch of the registry mentioned in the error message.

You could also try driving the install through with the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall tool, or try to install the "for older video cards" release if you have a 64-bit system.

Microsoft tool does nothing other than uninstall the programs (which I can do myself). I downloaded for older video cards & I still got the same message "UNKNOWN" to start with then stalled, but at least this time it did install itunes onto my laptop. However, when I try to open the icon, i get a new error message "Apple Application Support not found Apple Mobile Device Service failed to Start Error 2"

As I understand it the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility can monitor an install as well as an uninstall, and in some cases is able to repair or push through an install that might otherwise fail.

See also this older post on logging the installation of each component in the hope that something in the log might suggest a workaround: Re: Re: Windows 7-updated, cant open cus error 7(windows error 5).

Seems like the installation is broken. Remove each and every trace of iTunes and other apple software and utilities form the computer and try the re-installation.

The steps above will ensure that all components of iTunes are removed from the computer. Once this is done, you can reinstall the software.
