iTunes sync mail accounts problem - list pane empty / greyed out

Hi all, I have a clean Lion 10.7.3 install, updated 10.5.3 iTunes, restored iPhone 3G, everything runs fine except Mail accounts details syncing, the list in iTunes just appears empty and I cannot tick the corresponding box. I have 4 mail accounts in Mail. I already rebooted everything, added/removed Mail accounts and so on, I have no MobileMe, deactivated iCloud and no restrictions on the iPhone, what could it be? Is it possible to "force" iTunes to "sense" again Mail accounts? It's not that big of a deal but it's bothering me.

Thanks in advance

After the fresh Lion install I recreated the mail accounts on the Mac (four), but I already had two of them on the iPhone (that was synced with my old Lion install). When I tried to resync the iPhone with my new iTunes I instantly noticed that I couldn't resync mail accounts and contacts (boxes not thickable), but calendar and apps worked fine. I resolved the contacts problem by clearing the /library/applicationsupport/syncservices folder and tinkering with the contacts app, but no luck with mail accounts. So I restored my iPhone to factory condition and retried with no luck. iTunes gives me no errors, syncing works just fine, it has just never seen my Mail accounts.

edit: I forgot, after trying all of this, I recreated two mail accounts on my iPhone, they work fine in retrieving mail, but nothing changed in iTunes behaviour.
