is http://macscan.securemac.com safe?
My hotmail account was hacked and I'm concerned that my mac could be affected. Is the site macscan.securemac.com safe?

There's essentially no chance that compromise of your Hotmail account was caused by malware running on your Mac; it was caused by an attack on Hotmail itself. But if you want to check anyway, the only malware scanner you should use is called "ClamXav."

There is one area that MacScan excels in and that is detection of Key Loggers. When I first stumbled across MacScan, that is all it did, but they have now added several other areas of detection. It's disadvantages include being slow to update definitions (~ once a month) and it's propensity to give false alarms on harmless files, due to the method used for identification.
I'm sure there are other AV apps that can identify Key Loggers, but ClamXav is not one of them. Since most Key Loggers are legitamate software which require physical access to the Mac (as far as we know) it is extremely rare for this to be a problem and I should think that anybody going to that much trouble would be interested in finding much more than the password for a hotmail account.
Since MacScan has a demo period, if it would ake gib10 feel any better, he or she should be able to safely use it for peace of mind, but your advise should be the primary focus.
Thanks guys. I suspected this was the case but wanted to be sure.
Linc - I'll check out ClamXav but likely don't need it as my good ole mac is running smoothly.
Thanks again
