Q: os 9.1 updater

I've had trouble locating the OS 9.1 update online.  The Apple download site lists the updates, but I've only been able to download the 9.04 update.  The OS 9.1 update seems to be unavailable:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1387

I believe I need this in order to advance to my OS 9.2 disc.

There are several other sites offering the download, but some point to Apple's site, while others want me to register and pay $99!

This is for a Wallstreet G3 laptop I'm restoring for a friend.  OS 9 is installed, but I'd appreciate the better performance of OS 9.2.2.

thanks

If you have Mac OS 9 installed for North American English, the update to 9.1 is here:

    http://ftp.iinet.net.au/pub/apple/US/Macintosh/System/Mac_OS_9.1_Update (15-part .smi.bin download)

If you have any other language installed, those updates will not work with this; the base OS and the updates must be the same language. Otherwise, you're just wasting your time on something that won't work.

Thanks, but two problems:  The first link gives me a page with what seems to be a 15-part download for 9.1. (I was expecting just one).

I downloaded two of them, and on attempting to open I got an error message saying segments were missing. Also:  North American English is installed, to the best of my knowledge  (I'm in USA)

I'm not sure how to open all 15 anyway - one after another?  It seems like I'd still get error messages.

The second link, OS 9 Forever Site  only seems to have a 9.2.1 updater.  I have 9.2.1 on a CD. Why isn't there an update for 9.1 on this ostensibly helpful-looking site?

    k.

The Apple update links stopped working last October & they were notified. Hasn't been fixed yet. This is an alternate source for the OS 9 updates http://ftp.iinet.net.au/pub/apple/US/Macintosh/System/

Download all 15 files for the OS 9.1 update & put the files in a folder. Then click on the first file to start the update.

If you want OS 9.1, you have to use the link I gave you and download all 15 parts, then double-click on the first one to have them all decompress and form one file. Leaving out parts of that update isn't going to work.

Yep, that did the trick.  I wonder why Apple can't see its way to maintaining basic comprehensive support for these older systems?   It's kind of a tribute to the company that many old Macs and OS are still in service.

Actually, I have links (on Apple.com) for all the Mac OS 9 updates, in all 16 languages it was released in. So despite what some people say, the files are there; you just have to know how to access them.

    Thanks,

I was actually able to download the 15 parts, which became a complete file, and which updated the Wallstreet to 9.1.  From there, I was able to use my 9.2.1 CD to advance further.

And - you have a point  - you'd think it wouldn't cost Apple, world's richest company, anything extra to keep helpful downloads for its older software.
