iPad can send but won't receive emails

I bought my iPad yesterday and set up my mail account on it with the server details provided by my ISP. They swear the details are correct but I can send emails from iPad but it won't receive. My ISP here in UK is Waitrose and details I was given are as follows:

Incoming mail server:

host name: mail.waitrose.com

User name: my email address

Password: my regular password on that email account

Outgoing Mail server:

smtpmail.waitrose.com

user name & password: as above for incoming

Use SSL is off

It is a POP account which is same as my Mac

Would appreciate any advice as tech guys at Waitrose were unable to help me any further - helpful but had never used an iPad!

Thanks

Well this will only help if:

Your email provider supports imap

All your devices and computers are connecting to it through imap. If one is still in pop, You lose the benefit of it.

iMap basically synchronize your mail account between all your devices. If you read an email on your iPad, it'll be marked as read on your computer, etc... Any chance on one appears on others.

It is most likely that the Waitrose server needs to be instructed to leave a copy of emails on its server for a set number of days so that other devices can get a copy. I am not sure what email programme you use to manage your emails but here is a link to demonstrate what needs to be done if you use Outlook. Some minor adjustments will be required if it is another programme.
