Could be the ISP (Internet Service Provider) doing updates and sending reconnect signals to your modem or router.
Why do people post replies like that? George probably would have noticed that happening before if it was his ISP.
Since my update to Lion, it is very slow to aquire my wifi network connection and drops it if I've paused while doing something else for 4 minutes. It's not my internet provider and I know that because:
1. It NEVER happened before the upgrade to Lion.
2. My laptop running Snow Leopord doesn't do it.
3. My Kindle Fire doesn't do it.
4. Windows machine doesn't do it.
5. My duahgter's iPad doesn't do it.
Running 10.7.3
3.06 GHz Intel core 2 Duo
4 GB 1067 MHz Ram
Barbara, thanks for your reply.
My computer came with Lion installed, I also have 4 gb memory, I do not have this problemon my pc which I also use daily.
I really can't explain this, at times when i open safari, the internet isn't connected, then I can click on the refresh icon, and it will connect.
Thank you Barbara for you reply,
george
I'm constantly having to reconnect my wifi. I wish I had an answer. When my daughter uses the iMac she gets very frustrated. Hoepfully someone will have an answer.
Hi, This keeps happening to me too! iMac 10.7.3 it's only 3 mths old. Both iPad and iPhone are okay at home! Ethernet doesn't make any difference either! I'm embaressed to say I was blaming BT but I'm now on 2nd box & hv only just got iPad & noticed it was fine! What's going on....! 😕
Same here. All other devices in my home never loose connection. Only My I Mac since updating to lion. repair premissions restart and its for a couple of
Hrs. Incase your wondering why this is two posts IT'S BECAUSE I LOST CONNECTION !! And if you'll notice the slanted text above. Thats when I lost connection. Unbelievable.
okay now 24 hrs later I've changed the wifi system info (sorry can't remember name, i'm not a guru!) on internet via BT 192.1.168.254 from 802.11n to 802.11g - totally working, no dropouts! 😀
Please help....
I just puchase my iMac about a month ago, and I am having connection drop issues. PC and everything else is OK. I am connected directly through a cable not wifi.
I too have this problem but I've had it for about 2 years. We used to think it was because I was on wi-fi and I was getting interference. I moved the modem closer and that didn't help. Then my ISP kept telling me it was my Dlink modem so I chucked that modem out and went with my ISP's modem. That didn't solve the problem but at least my ISP couldn't blame it on other equipment. I then moved the modem right beside my iMac and I was still loosing the connection while on wi-fi. I got so fed up that I have hard wired my iMac right into the modem and it's still happening. Ive had my cable company out here a zillion times trying to trouble shoot this. They changed all of my cabling from the road to my house and from my house to the computer. They gave me a new modem and then they gave me another new modem but a different brand. I'm still dropping my internet connection every few minutes.
The one thing that I discovered with my provider is that I'm not actually loosing connection to the internet as they don't see my internet dropping at all. It's as if the signal comes and goes on this iMac and when it goes, I'm left with my curser doing the whirley-bird until it reconnects to the net. Usually takes 5 minutes or so but it eventually comes back. My wi-fi is fine with my iPad and my iPhone but it wasn't with this iMac. I've been on Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion and I've had the same problem with all three OS's on this iMac.
I'm totally at a loss as to why this is happening. It's very frustraging and makes it near impossible to use online banking or booking flights etc because I can't keep a connection long enough.
Anybody have any brilliant suggestions to try?
