Why Carbon Copy Cloner?

I am a new MAC user and have a question about cloning a disk drive. It appears that the "Restore" function of Disk Utility does what's needed. What is the advantage of using Carobn Copy Cloner that seems to be recommended by everyone?

Thanks

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

I personally have had the Restore fail a few times. Don't know why.

I have never had CCC fail on me. No it does not clone the whole drive, only the OS partition bit once that is done you can restore other parts of the drive.

One can also do incremental backups with CCC. DU's restore is a full backup each time.

Here are the release notes of CCC for version 3.4.4. This version archives the Recovery HD so it can be recreated if it later becomes missing on the main Lion OS volume. It will also create a Lion installer drive (e.g. USB thumb drive) if the the Lion downloaded app is present in the Applications folder. I actually tried this out this morning and it works great. I have also used CCC to recreated my Recovery HD on my MBP after deleting it. Works everytime.

The most important item for me with CCC is the developer continually works on the product and enhances it with features people want. It's donate-ware and well worth a donation.
