"lacie setup assistant is formatting your device" endless loop?

Hello,

I just purchased a LaCie d2 1tb external hard drive. I connected it via the FireWire 800 it came with and followed the instructions which told me to launch the "LaCie setup assistant" before running the iMac "disk utility". The problem is that the setup assistant seems to be stuck in an endless loop? I have been looking at the same screen for 45 minutes now? The second (of 5) tabs is highlighted which says "format", and the screen says:

Lacie Set-Up assistant is formatting your device.

Please do not disconnect your device!

Below this warning is a circle with a big arrow going around it in a clock-wise direction, making me think that something is happening, but after so much time has elapsed, I'm not so sure anything actually is happening? How long should this "formatting" take? Do I dare "disconnect"? Do I really NEED to run the "Lacie setup assistant"?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Lincoln

Use Disk Utility to format the drive and ignore the install software in the drive ... I did this when I got mine

Finder > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility

Choose the LaCie drive (not the partition, the drive)

Select Partition

Select 1 partition as the scheme

Under options select "GUID"

Name the partition, which should be defaulted to "Extended journaled"

"Apply"
