Installing/Uninstalling Itunes

Am having an issue installing the latest version of itunes.... I get the following error in the installation process....

Error writing to file C:\Program Files\itunes\itunes.resources\pl.lproj\Aboutbox.rtf

Verify you have access to that directory

I have followed the instructions in trying to remove Itunes

"Removing and Reinstalling Itunes, Quicktime, and other components for Windows XP"

and when i try to delete the c:\ProgramFiles\Itunes folder i then get the following error

"Cannot delete pl.lproj: The directory is not empty"

So as you can see i am stuck. Any help would be much appreciated....

Thanks

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP

Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.

Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

Thanks for taking the time to reply..

I have down a disk check as suggested and followed the instructions...and unfortunately doesn't seem to have made any difference. Doesn't look the chkdsk found or repaired any damage or i can't see anything that it has done...

I am still receiving the same error messages on installation and the itunes folder is unable to be deleted......Any other suggestions

Appreciate your help

Ok - looks like we are moving in the right direction...

Have done what you said above tried another install...and it worked. Got through the whole installation and now looks like i have itunes installed.......

However - Double click on Itunes icon....computer waits a while and then comes up with

Date Execution prevention - Microsoft Windows

To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program.

Name :Itunes

Publisher: Apple Inc

Then gives the option of change settings or close message - have looked at the change settings but nothing i tried seemed to work...
