I Think I Now know why I was always getting The Loud Chainsaw Noise in My iMac Optical Drive it is cause I Was placing The Files in The Blank DVD+R Disc Drive when I Should have just have gone Burning The Files through it by using The Links in the iMac instead, I was never good at Burning Files to Blank Disc's but i think i found a way how to get the chainsaw noise to stop by using The Links instead so now it burn's with no loud chainsaw noise.

& i been not on here for a while cause i been working.

My Otical Drive in the iMac is back to making a loud chainsaw noise again for some reason? is it the drive or the disc? cause it even makes Loud Chainsaw noise with CD-R Blank disc's to? so how come it did not make an Chainsaw noise when i did everything right the 2nd time?

Okay, Byron, sorry, I was gone all day....

so you have a noise in your drive? That could be hardware related - that means Apple would replace it. And no, it should not make that noise.

Before calling Apple (or making an appointment at the Genius Bar), try a different brand of disk (Verbatim is really good for the finicky drives). If that also produces a noise, it's time to call Apple. If they decide that the drive needs to be replaced, you could ask for in-home service because you have Applecare - you would need to live within 50 miles of an authorized service provider. You would have to ask for that - they don't automatically offer, but it is included in Applecare. Otherwise, you will need to take your iMac to the store or authorized service provider (Apple would tell you where to take it).

I looked at your other post and we can ignore it - we can talk about it here. Don't mention about burning iTunes movies - iTunes says you're not allowed to do that. And because it's not allowed, they have coding embedded so it really doesn't work too well. So we'll talk about your homemade movies instead, okay. When you want to burn or copy one, you need to use something like iMovie and/or iDVD to burn them - otherwise, you can only watch them on your computer. If you want to watch them on a TV (with a DVD player), you need to do it with iMovie and/or iDVD.

If it's just photos (not a slide show or a video), then you can use iPhoto or even the Finder (dragging the photos into a "burn" folder - look in the Finder File menu) and then you can burn the burn folder.

And, once you decide if you want to buy an external burner, you can look at this one (I have the older version of it):

    http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?id=10340

It even includes Roxio Toast (the lite version) which is the best burning software there is and very easy to use.

Well, the drives go bad sometimes - Apple just replaced my drive in my 2010 iMac last month! In my case, I could not put a CD or DVD in it - it would only go in halfway and the tech said the little arms that grab the CD were broke.

Ok I found it for you:

It's a mid 2010 13", right? That one is next to the last one on this page:

Well, if your MBP was set up with your uncle's name, it's not that easy to change - take a look at this:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1428

If you don't have many extra apps installed on it (and have a backup) and have the original install disk, you can also consider reinstalling from scratch - that way your Mom would be able to set up her account.
