Whenever i try to sync my iPad with iTunes it gets stuck on step 2 (back-up) it doesnt freeze until i try to remove the device, what do i do? i dont want to lose my iPad purchases

I do not have my laptop with me at the moment; try right-click on your device on the right.

now i have done that, deleted the old back up. but whats happening is after a while of it saying it backing up my ipad turns off and resets, or does something like that.
im thinking i may just have to suck it up and loose my data, ive gone through and checked i have all my apps on the computer. but my app data a few of the apps are important =(
Suggest you do a reset. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo; ignore the red slider.
