Unexpected Microsoft update preference files found

Today I discovered two unexpected preference files for a Microsoft program in the user preference folder. Because I do not use Microsoft applications other than Silverlight, which is needed to see Netflix movies, I did not expect to see any microsoft files other than for Silverlight. The names of the files are "com.microsoft.autoupdate2.plist" and "com.microsoft.autoupdate2.plist.lockfile."

Do you know whether or not Silverlight auto-updates, and is it this program that would have made these unexpected files? If not, then what is happening here?

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Wilson
