Safari will not open to Home Page

Safari will not open to my selected home page when initially starting or restarting after quitting. It defaults to a different webpage. Preferences are set correctly to the home page. I have tried unchecking the restore windows box in the general system preferences. I have found and trashed the com.apple.safari plist file and am still having the problem. It appears that Safari is not recognizing the home page selected (Xfinity) or is being over ridden by the other webpage. Thoughts??

Go to ~ / Library / Caches / com.apple.Safari / Cache.db

Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash and restart your Mac.

~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.

For Lion: To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

If that didn't help, your ISP may be re directing your browsing. You can avoid that by using OpenDNS...

Use OpenDNS for better speed, more security, it's free, and no more re directs.

Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.

Click +

Enter these numbers exactly as you see them here.

208.67.222.222

Click +

208.67.220.220

Then click OK and restart your Mac.

More about OpenDNS here.

Topic : Manually provided DNS server addresses are higher priority than DHCP's

If you aren't satisfied with OpenDNS just delete those numbers from the DNS tab in System Preferences > Network > Advanced

I think I know what's happened. In 5.1.2 in preferences it states Safari opens with (choice here can be "a new window"). In 5.1.3 - that line doesn't exist. It does have the rest, but it never says what Safari opens with; whether it's a new window or what. The next line is where you can specify that a new window opens with your chosen homepage. If Safari doesn't know it should be opening with a new window, then it's going to open the last one it used.

I know this doesn't solve it (I'm ticked that it's happening, too), but maybe someone knows who to tell to fix it? I've clicked the "report bugs to Apple" button and stated what happens, but it likely takes many people doing this to make a dent in their to-do list.

Boy, it's been a long time with this, eh?

Two things:

1. Did you do what Quicktime Kirk suggested?

Hold down the shift key when you launch Safari.

If so,and it still launches Garmin --

2. Go to your Safari Preferences:

Go to Safari Preferences> Autofill.

Check in User Name & Passwords, and Other Forms

Make sure Garmin is not in there.

Then go to Safari Prefs > Security > Cookies.

Open Cookies up, and type in Garmin. Then delete all that show up.

Quit Safari immediately after this (Important).

Restart Safari.

Any better?

Holding the shift key down does work but anytime I don't hold it down it defaults to the garmin webpage. I checked the Safari Preferences autofill was empty. When I go to Safari Preferences in the security tab there is no mention of cookies and no place to type in Garmin. I am looking in the Safari application preferences is that the correct area. Any other thoughts on how to fix this without holding down the shift key? Thanks
