Epson 835 printer vs Lion

Just acquired a new Epson Artisan 835 3-in-1. I have 3 computers on my home LAN network, 2 Windows computers see and work with the 835 through LAN. My iMac, hooked up to the same LAN, fails to see it. Tried Epson Lan Setup several times, nothing changes. Has anybody else out there managed to get Lion connected to an Epson 800 series printer through LAN?

I have the previous model Epson and in my setup instructions, it said to hook up the printer to the Mac via USB cable first to set it up following the directions in the setup manual/brochure. Once set up that way, wireless can be set up - for that I'd open the Print & Scan Preference Pane in System Preferences and add your printer with Bonjour capabilities. I believe you will also need to use the panel on the Epson (go to Setup > Network Settings > Wireless LAN setup).

I have an Artisan 837. Initial setup was for a wireless connection which consisted of joining the wireless network here at home. I have 2 iMacs, an old white 24", and a newer Aluminum 27" and they both immediately recognized the printer in the Print and Scan preference file. I can print from either and I also have a HP printer joined by USB to the 24" iMac for my wife.

My reply of 11 February was a bit premature. Within a day or two, my iMac27 (Intel) stopped seeing my Epson 835 printer. Try as I might I was unable to get it talking to my 835 in either LAN or wireless, even though 2 other computers, and now my little laptop can see it through wireless. So I connected it USB. Only then would my iMac see the 835. Problem is that my wife's computer (Win7) also has trouble seeing this printer in anything but USB. So, I now have my iMac and my wife's Win7 connected to the 835 through a USB switch, one or the other, but not both simultaneously. It's a workaround situation, but no hiccups for past month.

Like many iMac Lion owners, I too am having all kinds of trouble getting it to work with peripherals, like 3 scanners, that still have PowerPC drivers, which Lion no longer supports. My scanner manufacturers advise me they have no plans to develop a new set of drivers for Lion, not nice at all. I'm regretting ever upgrading to Lion, and am wondering how I might be able to migrate back to Snow Leopard without a whole new install.

I decided to just go to Print/Scan preferences and try adding my 835 to the print list on my new MacBook Pro 13" running 10.7.3. The 835 was already working via wifi on my networked MBP 15 and a G5, both running 10.5.8; it shows up on the network as "Epson 830." To my surprise, the 835 works fine (so far) for printing from Lion MPB. Driver download appeared to come from Apple, not Epson. Scanning works fine, too. I'll post again if it stops working.

Ok - Wireless printer setup on the new WorkForce 845 was a breeze. *Not* so with wireless scanning. After a *lot* of experimenting funally got it to work though. Go to Epson sight. Download appropriate scanner driver and scanning utility (both should be available as a combined single download). Once installed, restart computer and run Epson Scan Settings utility. Under Select Scanner, your appropriate Epson product should be automatically listed [NOTE: If your proper product is not listed you must trash the software and re-download! This can happen even if you downloaded the right link!] Select Network under the connection options, then hit the Add button. In the new screen you must add the product name exctly as it's written in the Select Scanner category, at which point the ip address of your printer should come up in the add box. Click Okay, and Okay, and you're good to go! If the ip address doesn't come up you can find it in the network section on your printer, and then add it manually. Piece a' cake, huh? 🙂
