Q: Is there a limit to word file size in AW?

Folks:

I've bounced back to AW for working on a word processing document because it's the one application that I can work with in my iBook, my iMac, and MacBookPro . . . and things are going well but just wondering if there is a size limit in terms of Megs or pages that might cause some loss of data at some point??  I'm at 140 pages in 8.5 x 11 format, and it looks like it's 2 megs when it transfers to the USB stick that I'm using to move it around, but in "get info" right now it says 410KB??  Is the sky the limit as far as AW word docs go? or is there a "line in the sand" that I won't find until I can't find something I've written???

Thanks,

Back in the day, the maxium size of an AW WP file was limited by the number of pages ... not by anything else. It was a ridiculously large number, probably 64K or some multiple of it. I have generated very very long files over the years, many much larger than what you are talking about now, and never hit any functional limits that i can remember.

I don't think you need to worry but, if you must, break your work product up into multiple documents and, of course, save and back up often.

    Michael:

Thanks kindly for your reply, yes, I don't think I'll be getting 64,000 pages typed up, maybe even in my lifetime; so indeed I probably don't have to worry about it.  When I first started working on a clinical doctorate track I was using AW to write modest length papers, and it is fine for that, but then needing some expanded capacity for bibliography moved me over to Mellel, circa '05 or so, which was good but then overly complicated for most normal word processing--and I recalled some comment on Mellel forum that "mellel never lost a word in long documents" . . . which implied that others did, can't remember if AW was mentioned specifically.  But, for what I'm writing now, so far AW is just fine and it lets me work over different OS's and will even it looks like let me set links & anchors for the eBook version of what I'm doing . . . which my first book was 280 pages and this one might wind up in that ballpark, which looks well shy of 64,000 pages . . . .

    Thanks again,

Seems like there are no other answers being offered, and since I couldn't actually test to see if the limit is after 64K or before, I'm marking the question as answered . . . .

OK, it doesn't seem like I can edit the "helpful answer" to a "correct answer" and it doesn't seem like there is an obvious place to mark the question as "answered" anymore . . . ????
