Hi again TeenTitan. Bravo!
Going in through settings actually brings up another window choice and from that you can select an external cam. Thanks for that. Really appreciate your help ... peter
Ps: I did try and keep the internal cam busy by opening up Photobooth. but that doesn't disable it.
There are lots of internet plug-ins that can user cameras inside of Safari. For instance skype, flash, google voice and video chat.
Do you know witch plugin, your having the issue?
Cameras tend to be only use-able from one application at a time. so a good way to rule out another application isn't using the camera is to reboot the computer. Then just open safari, and then see if what ever plugin your trying to use can reach the external camera.
Some of plug-ins do not support all cameras. But just for refrence what camera are you trying to use?
thanks for the reply...
basically i am trying to access an online group in safari. The camera in the Imac can't go anywhere, not look around the room etc, so bought a basic off the shelf logitech plugin camera. I can choose to use it in Photobooth, so know it's working, but when I'm on Safari and I need a camera, if defaults to the inbuilt and cannot find any other. Not sure how to change to any plugin camera, as there is not an interface within the system preferences panel, as there is there for audio.
ok so next time you use the online group, and you can see their camear or you can see your camera. Try holding the control key and clicking on the picture of you or of them. a menu should appear. The menu that pops up might say some thing like 'about' or list at the top some thing like 'flash'.
I'm just trying to help you figure out what program inside Safari your having the issue with.
so the same way as you got the menu that said "About Adouble Flash Palyer 11.1.102.55," But this time chose "settings," click on the camera tab, click on Built-in iSite. See if it lists a USB camera, then click close.
If it dosen't show up. you could configure photobooth to use the built-in camera. Open photobooth, then open safari, see if it reverts to the external camera.
Hi TeenTitan, thanks for your support. Says Flash 11.1.102.55.
cannot see where is Safari I can access Flash preferences ... cheers peter
