That is because you are trying to use iWeb to open a site that has already been published - iWeb has no import facility so cannot open any html or css files - index.html is published so iWeb can't open it.

Any sites that are in your Sites folder have been published.

Just find iWeb instead and double click the iWeb programme to open it - you should find iWeb in your Applications folder and when it opens the programme will ask you to create a new site. After creating a new site your domain.sites file which is what you need to save - it is your data file will be found under your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites folder.

Go into your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and see if there's a file titled Domain.sites. If there is double click on it and see if iWeb opens.

If there is no Domain file there do the following:

  1. delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home(User uploaded file) /Library/Preferences folder.

  2. go to your Home(User uploaded file)/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.

  3. User uploaded file

  4. launch iWeb and try again.
