font book disabled fonts still showing.

Font book.

Fresh install of Lion, all updated and dandy.

I added a couple of fonts to font book all validated no problems there.

However disabling them seems to do nothing at all as they still show up in application font menus.

I've tried adding the fonts as a collection and also a Library but still no go. They always show up in apps even if I disable them.

Now if I disable / enable a font in the default All Fonts library, say arial hebrew - it works perfectly.

I take it this is a bug?

I'm trying not to have to install 3rd part font management software if I can help it.

I've validated all the fonts. And checked for duplicates. All was fine and dandy.

Basically it's a clean fresh install with CS5.5 suite and iLife.

I can disable / enable the system + software installed fonts fine. * Edit. Actually some don't: i.e Ariel Hebrew does, Blackoak doesn not.

When I add my own fonts to a library or collection ( I've tried various fonts ) They work fine. It's just the disable feature doesn not work with them. They all validated, and I'm 100% sure they are not corrupt.

Did a full re-install and wonder of wonders it now works.

When doing a reinstall of the OS, it throws out all current cache files and Font Book's database. That's why it worked.

For a much shorter method next time, do this:

Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime to boot into Safe Mode. Keep holding the Shift key until OS X asks you to log in (you will get this screen on a Safe Mode boot even if your Mac is set to automatically log in). Let the Mac finish booting to the desktop and then restart normally. This will clear Font Book's database and the cache files of the user account you logged into in Safe Mode.

To clear the rest of the font cache files on the system, follow up with this:

Close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:

sudo atsutil databases -remove

Terminal will then ask for you to enter your admin password. As you type, it will not show anything, so be sure to enter it correctly.

This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and the current user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.
