JVC released the Quicktime Components update:

which should take care of TOD files playing in Quicktime, but:

The answer to your question depends on which model JVC camcorder you have.

Here are a few basics:

1. If you have a JVC HD Everio that records in the AVCHD high definition file format (.mts file extension), and you have an Mac with an Intel processor, (sound like you do) running iMovie '08 or '09, then it should be no problem. Simply connect the camcorder via USB and launch iMovie.

2. If you have a slightly older JVC HD Everio that records MPEG2 high definition (.tod file format), then it is easiest if you record in the special 1440CBR mode, and transfer your video to your Mac using an i.Link (Firewire Connection) using the "Playlist Dubbing" process which is explained in your owner's manual.

@ Klaus1 :-)

My macbook : Intel Core 2 Duo 2,26GHz Late 2009 Unibody with OSX 10.8.2 (iMovie'11 - 9.0.8)

My video-camera : JVC Everio GZ-HM545 (same as 550, but no bluetooth/wifi) (bought 28 June 2012)

When I ran on OSX 10.6.7, I connected this ⚠ camera (USB-cable) & I had NO problem importing videos/photo's into iMovie... :-)

:,-( ...Then I updated to OSX 10.8.2... :,-(

Since this moment, my camera can no longer be recognized by my macbook...(?!)

I have NO IDEA, except that maybe the problem lies @ Apple... (? drivers ?)

I tried (almost) every connecting-procedure people write on the internet... Nope... Nothing...

Any advice...?

Thanks, Herman.

PS: there's a long way to circle around the problem, but it can not be "the right way to do"...

* If I recorded a film on the internal memory (32GB flash), I put in the spare-slot another 32GB-SDHC-card & select "copie file to SDHC-card" > connect the SDHC-card via a USB-adapter > "decode" the found file(s) via Quicktime & import then into iMovie...

But hey, what's the use of the delivered USB-connection-cable of the camera...?

* Shorter version > record directly on the SDHC-card in the slot, but what's then the use of the internal 32GB memory...?!

Hi Martone1 , Klaus1 & Rudegar ,

To test where it went wrong, I installed my Mac Pro with 4 OSX's (on 4 seperate HDD's) : 10.5 , 10.6 , 10.7 & 10.8 ...

Then I connected my JVC Everio GZ-HM545(550-series) , but on NO OSX I had connection...?!

Same problem on my PowerMac G5 Quad with OSX 10.5.8...

I suppose it will be my connecting-procedure that's mistaking...?!

(my JVC does not appear on the list of supported JVC-gear for apple, but I had it working before...?! Before I upgraded to OSX 10.8.3 ...)

What would be the logic (working) way to connect & power-up...?

See in the "old days" the procedure to connect SCSI-gear... ⚠

I tried (almost) every possible combination... Nada... Nothing appears... 😕

Even not after long time...

Anybody has info/advice/news around this JVC-problem...???

(I seam to be not the only one having this problem...)

Best regards from Belgium, Herman.

Finally...! The problem with my JVC-video-camera is solved...

How >>> Yesterday-evening I received a notice from Apple (App Store) that there was an update (iMovie 9.0.9 I believe) >> after the update everything worked as shoul...! 😉

Took some time, but THANK YOU APPLE !!!!!!!!!! 🙂
