If I restore my iphone to factory settings how do i not lose all my data and apps?

I forgot my parental restrictions password. I've read that I need to restore the phone to factory settings and not the default. If I perform a sync after the restore will all my apps and data be restored to the phone?

iPhone 4, iOS 5.0.1

Restoring to factor settings removes all material added to the iDevice. Backing up before doing that does not help because that will also restore the forgotten password.

You can redownload your apps, even those purchased, using iTunes and the app store.
