Q: Printing to LG-NAS connected printer

I can't print from my Imac to a Samsung ML1640 printer connected to the USB port of a N2R1 LG-NAS.

  1. MAC OS X version = 10.7.3
  2. Samsung ML1640 is supported
  3. Latest Samsung ML1640 drivers are installed on the Imac
  4. Samsung ML1640 printer works when directly connected to the Imac
  5. The LG-NAS Detector program installed on the Imac detects the LG-NAS
  6. Webservice "Network Printer" has been enabled on the LG-NAS
  7. Latest firmware (1.0.0_2660) is installed on the LG-NAS
  8. Samsung ML1640 printer connected to the LG-NAS works when printing from a Windows PC
  9. Imac and Windows PC are in the same workgroup

After selecting "System Preferences" => "Print&Scan" => "Add Printer"  the Add Printer window appears.

This is the point where I get lost.

How do I continue from here ?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Please read Printing Overview OS X Lion for instructions, your problem may be the NAS isn't designed for OS X or at least for Lion.

@ mac os x lion compatibility

According to the LG support site firmware version 1.0.0._2660 for the N2R1 NAS has improved MAC OS x 10.7 (Lion) compatibility.

    [Details for New Firmware]

    [ Common changes ]

      - Improved :  MAC OS X 10.7 (Lion) compatibility

      - Improved :  DLNA thumbnail function

    @your suggestion

For now I will follow your suggestion to first read Printing Overview OS X Lion for instructions and will come back to you in case I still have further questions then.

Today I read Printing Overview OS X Lion

Based on the information I found I decided to try to add a printer via Windows option of the Print & Scan system preference pane.

    Schermafbeelding 2012-02-13 om 21.21.03.png

After Adding (Voeg toe) the printer appears in the list of available printers

When selecting the printqueue for Samsung_lp0, the printer is reported to be Ready (Printer gereed)

    When printing a document

    • nothing appears on the printer
    • the printer status becomes Paused
    • The task message reports Unable to connect to printer

This is how far I get, any help is very much appreciated !

What happens when you try to add the printer by clicking the + symbol in the bottom of the Print & Scan Preference box, can your system see the printer in the list of devices. For example I am working at a friend's home today that has a printer on his wi-fi network. If I try to add it I see:

When I press the + symbol no printers are shown.

I have tried some other options but after several Google hours I came to the conclusion that I was walking on a dead end street.

I have now purchased a Samsung ML-2525W network printer.

After installing the software I selected the Print & Scan Preference box, clicked the + symbol and observed that the Samsung ML-2525W was reported as a nearby printer.

Adding the printer then was a peace of cake.

    Rkaufmann87,

thanks for spending your time to help me with this printing problem!!

    Hi,

I know this is almost two years later, but, I have the exact same problem.  My Brother HL-2240 installs but when I go to print a document, printer is paused.

Anyone out there got a solution.  How about using the IP or LPD protocol instead of Samba.
