I have a mac app update for an app i don't have. Help!!!!

Click Purchases (items appear even if a free download) and see if it shows there, if so move next to Installed and you will see and X in a o, check that and it will vanish from Updates

If CodeBox shows up in your purchases go to the App Store Featured page and click on the Account Link under Quick Links on the right. Change your password and security question by clicking on the Edit button for your Apple ID. That will take you to the My Apple ID web page where you can make the necessary changes.

Search your computer for "CodeBox" and then search for the developer's name, "shpakovski" to make sure you didn't purchase it and forgot about it. Even if you trashed the app there are usually remnants left behind unless you purposely cleaned everything out. Check with family members to make sure they didn't use your account to purchase the app.

If you are absolutely positive that you did not purchase CodeBox and it shows up in your purchases list delete all the information in your account such as contact info and credit card or PayPal info. Check with your credit card company or PayPal to see if you were charged for the CodeBox app or anything else that you did not purchase.

Click on the Support link below the Account link on the App Store's Featured page and notify the App Store (iTunes) that you did not purchase the CodeBox and want an explanation for why there is a fraudulent charge on your account.

It would still probably be wise to change your password and security question. Use the support link on the Mac App Store's Featured page to ask iTunes to explain why an update for an app you never purchased is showing up as needing an update. It's probably some sort of iTunes server glitch but it's always safest to assume a security issue unless and until you get a satisfactory alternate explanation.

Apps purchased from the Mac App Store have a receipt file in Contents > _MASReceipt. This receipt contains the Apple ID of the person who purchased the app and is used by MAS to determine your updates.

This means you have installed an app, which has a receipt, with the Apple ID of someone who purchased CodeBox, but did not update it.

Is a stranger's Apple ID showing in the Mac App Store when you try to update this app? If so, you have a pirated app installed on your Mac that has been cracked by the pirates using the MAS receipt from this app acquired with the stranger's Apple ID.

You may not realize that its a pirated app. It may be a "free" version of the MAS that you found on the web. Or it may have been promoted as a trial version.

Finding a pirated app -

All MAS apps have a MAS receipt in their app bundle. Check any app acquired from the MAS. Right click on the app's icon in your Apps folder and choose Show package contents. In the Contents folder is a _MASReceipt folder and in that folder is the coded MAS receipt. It has the Apple ID of the MAS account that bought/acquired the app from the MAS. It is that receipt that the MAS uses to alert you that an app has an update. There would not be a notice of an update with someone else's Apple ID showing in the MAS on your Mac, if there was not an app with a receipt from this person's account somewhere on your Mac.

Download the free app FindAnyFile (FAF);

This app is easier to use and seems to be more powerful than Spotlight. Open FAF and in the box type _MASReceipt and press Find. It should come up with a list of every app on the Mac with a MAS receipt. Compare the apps with receipts in FAF's list with your purchased apps list in the Mac App Store. The odd app out should be the pirated app.

I have this problem also, apart from I have tried using FindAnyFile and I couldn't find the app on any of my computers. It is trying to get me to update the app Angry Brids, I don't remember ever having this app.

Anyone know how to get rid of it it drives me crazy?

I have this same problem. I don't own Codebox, I've never purchased or downloaded it, it's not installed on any of my computers, I've never even heard of it. But I can't seem to get it to stop showing up in software update.

Galaxy on Fire HD was the problem for me, no more Codebox again.

I know exactly what happend: You, or someone from whom you got your copy of OSX, downloaded Mac OSX Mountain Lion from a torrent site (One of the earliest torrents for Mountain Lion retail). Unfortunately this was not an unaltered version, but a version that was already used: hence the entry for CodeBox in the appstore. If you try to update it, it will ask you to log in with this account: hein****@me.com. I've put stars in the mail address, but you'll get my point. I haven't figured out yet how to remove CodeBox, but rest assured, your app store account isn't hacked.

A pirated version of OS X will always be a pirated version, no matter how many updates that you apply.
