Macbook Pro won't boot to Recovery HD

So I am trying to ultimately repair my disk using the Lion Recovery HD. Every time I try to "command + R the computer shuts down; turns off completely.

I can see the Recovery HD in Terminal, and when I just push option it shows up with my windows and Lion Partitions. Selecting the Recovery HD I get to the apple and spinning wheel. After a few turns of the wheel it just shuts down, same thing goes for when I try command + R. My Lion partition is working so so, but think it needs some repair as it is really slow on star up. I have also made an external Recovery flash drive with Apple's Recovery Assistant, same results.
