two-sided print option faded out Samsung ML-1640 printer

Hi,

I'm a first time mac user and just bought a macbook pro. Unfortunately I can not print my documents two-sided, while under windows this was possible and my printer supports it. The option two-sided printing under the cmd + P (print screen) then layout window is simply faded out. I've tried reinstalling, updating nothing seems to work. Any got a clue how I can fix this?

Yours,

Harry

Hello Harry and welcome to the world of Mac.

For many printers, the Layout menu is not used for two-sided (duplex) printing. Instead there is often an additional menu that will provide this setting. That menu could be called Finishing or Duplex or Output.

If you are meant to use the Layout menu with this printer, then you may need to tell the Mac that this printer has a duplex unit (in case it is an option). If you open Print & Scan and select the printer, then click on Options & Supplies and then the Driver tab, there could be a Duplex checkbox here that you need to select.
