Software updated combo stuck for two hours now...

On iMac intel. It has been saying registering updated components for over two hours. Spinning wheel (not beach ball, the antsy turning one).

Wondering I'd I should let it run or whether to hit restart button... I'm afraid to loose stuff... MOnday morning for sure... Did other people have similar problem?
