I believe a word.docx file I saved was orphaned. I saved it repeatedly, then organized my files into new folders.
Microsoft Word knows it existed yesterday, but can't find it today and neither can I. What can I do?

Use Spotlight Search. You can try to remember the name of the document, or a text string within the document.

Thanks. I remember the file's name and spotlight doesn't even acknowledge its existence. Only the Word Document Gallery sees it, sort-of. it's called Midrash. See in the pic below.
Easyfind can't find it so far. I'll wait a few hours and if no one else suggests anything else, I'll try FindAnyFIle.
Word is seeing a broken alias to the file. It's not seeing the file itself.
If EasyFind couldn't find it, it's not there (as long as you entered the correct name or other parameters for the search).
Do you have a recent backup, via Time Machine or some other method, from which you could pull a recent version of that file?
I don't have a back-up. I know, I should have.
I didn't delete the file. So for future reference, any idea why it was lost and what I can do to make sure this doesn't happen again?
