Despite the suggestion that one go to Apple's own website, I have noticed something very strange at my end. Earlier today I was asked to provide new security answers while I was interacting with iTunes. This did not surprise me because I had heard about it in the news, and when I did so, I received emails from appleid@id.apple.com about it to confirm. However, I simultaneously received a separate email asking for confirmation of my recovery email from appleid@id.apple.com.akadns.net, and when I clicked on that email's link, I got a malware warning from Google Chrome, and a security certificate warning when I tried it after setting my main browser to Safari, from Safari. These emails were timestamped as coming at exactly the same time, down to the second. Apple Mail classified the iffy email purporting to be from them as "Junk" as well.

But here's the kicker. When I went to Apple's own webpage to see what would happen if I tried to change my recovery email address, the link there had the same effect: it sent me an email from appleid@id.apple.com.akadns.net, which, my understanding is, is a known phishing source.

Either I have an infection that alters how both iTunes and Safari function at my end, or Apple's own servers are infected. Either way, I'm not sure anymore that clicking on a link on Apple's own site is necessarily safe.

If anyone else can explain what I observed, I'm all ears.
