Thanks for posting the link but as I don't have the option to swipe to delete it didn't help resolve my problem.
The good news is that after having the 'stuck' podcast for several weeks in my iphone it seemed to clear itself. So my advice would be to live with the issue and it should eventually resolve itself.

hook up to itunes
locate your device in the sidebar, hit the triangle for the dropdown menu
click on podcasts (under your device name)
find the rogue podcast on the screen
click it and hit delete.
this should delete it manually

Very nice suggestion, but for streamed episodes it does not work (they don't populate in iTunes even under the device directory). Looks like streamed episodes don't actually take up room on the phone but there also seems to be no way to remove the placeholder link to the stream (or whatever you want to call the listing in podcasts on the phone itself) since that entry does not show up anywhere but the podcast list on the phone.

Settings > general > usage > music app (expand apps if necessary) > swipe across the podcasts to reveal the delete button, or click edit. Worked for me as nothing would allow me to delete them.

THANK YOU! This worked. I had to show all podcasts first, but the swipe to delete finally worked that way. As I suspected the streamed podcast link was just that and actually took up no storage space on my iPhone. At least I don't have to see it any longer!
