Feb 13, 2012 10:42 AM in response to JVLKby Kappy,Did this transfer include the entire contents of the external drive including OS X? If so, then you basically replaced the fresh install you made, so you will need to start over from scratch.
How did you create the external backup? Did you just drag and drop files? Did you use a backup utility? If so, which one?

Feb 13, 2012 11:00 AM in response to Kappyby JVLK,The backup was made with Carbon Copy Cloner and I used Time Machine to move the files. If the G5 was running 10.4 would that not show up in about this Mac. But the about this Mac says I am running 10.5.8.

Feb 13, 2012 11:06 AM in response to JVLKby Kappy,★HelpfulSince I don't know exactly what you did I don't know. Overwriting a Leopard system with a Tiger system by just copying files will result in a probably disaster. No so bad a disaster if you used CCC to restore the backup.
I would start from scratch by reinstalling a fresh copy of Leopard. Then the only thing I would restore from your backup is what's available via the Setup Assistant when you do you first reboot into Leopard after installation.

Feb 13, 2012 2:35 PM in response to JVLKby BDAqua,OK great, does everything run fine from the External drive?
Do you need 10.5.8 on the internal, or would 10.4.11 be fine?

Feb 13, 2012 2:57 PM in response to BDAquaby JVLK,Every thing works from the external HD. I have a couple of new programs that I bought that need 10.5. I had a Quicksilver dual 1ghz that would not let me install 10.5 it would just hang up so I bought this used G5 2.3 thinking I could just transfer the other programs over without any trouble and that didn't work out so well. I guess I will just have to take the time to reinstall the programs from the CD's. Some of the programs would work and others would tell me I don't have permissions to change them, even when I went in and changed the permissions it still would not work.

Feb 13, 2012 3:08 PM in response to JVLKby BDAqua,★HelpfulWell, I'd use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the external to the Internal now, then boot from the Internal, assure that all is well, then Install 10.5.x over the Internal 10.4.11 without erasing, then...
