The file couldn’t be saved. keeps coming up at around 1800. Can't tell what file or program. Thought it might be the Time Machine but it seems to be working ok. How do I find the route of the error or any suggestions on what program would be appreciated. thanks

Does it say the file "______" can't be saved, or just what you wrote with no other text? Nothing to Google at all? By 1800 do you mean 6 p.m.? If so, launch Activity Monitor and be watching at that time and see if you see an app running you don't recognize. Might take a time or two to find it.
The file couldn't be saved. exact phrase I copy/pasted it, no file specified. yes 1800 6pm and I will try Activity Monitor. I've closed all programs and it still comes up. It also comes up after being shut down during that time. thanks
Also check in System Prefs -> System -> Users & Accounts -> Login Items tab for anything you don't recognize.
Rather than Activity Monitor, which you would have to watch in real time, why not look in Console and check the logs for all entries at, or about, 1800.
I checked the login items and deleted two I didn't need and it hasn't come up since. thanks
