Hi. I'm calibrating my monitor and I have to set the Brightness Control back to the Factory Setting. Does anybody know what the factory setting is? Thank you!

There is not actual "factory default". For monitor calibration, it is usually best to set it somewhere near the low end so as not to wash out the highlights.

That may still be too high. The brightness is really cranked up on monitors these days. I doubt even at the minimum setting if you can get to the recommended luminance of 150 cd/m².
This link might help you determine the best setting. As you are adjusting the brightness up and down, you might see a subtle difference; a lot depends on the capabilities of the monitor.

that is a great reference. thanks so much for it. i had previously calibrated my monitor around 5:30pm, still light out but sun going down. now the sun is down. do you think it's better to calibrate at this time? i'd turn off all the ambiant lighting and it would be very dark.

There are a lot of resources on the web about monitor calibration. That is just one that I've had bookmarked for a long time.
If you are using a color calibrator, the lighting conditions shouldn't matter as long as it isn't really bright and there is no direct light shining on the monitor. A dim room is good.
