I bought a Magic Trackpad around last year in May, and suddenly it started clicking everything! It randomly settles down, but when I maneuver the mouse around the screen it starts clicking and highlighting everything. Has that happened to anyone else? I'm not sure what's wrong with it. Can it be fixed or is it now completely useless and do I have to throw about $70 away and get a new one?

do you have 'tap to click' enabled by any chance? go in the the trackpad settings in system prefs and it should be the top option there.

Check in System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad tab > trackpad options... button > uncheck dragging with drag lock.

I have imac27" & magic trackpad since Nov'11, lately magic trackpad suddenly highlighting everything & selecting items without clicking. Have tried everything to fix it...bluetooth reset & calling AppleCare for 2days. Finally I'd had enough & took trackpad back to Apple store. When I got there I told them the problem, without even checking my trackpad or iMac status the chap gave me a new one straightaway.

I'm sure Apple is aware of the problem, so if your trackpad is still under warranty, take it back to Apple store & they'll give you new one.

    Hope this help everyone......

I have a Mac 27" and had the same problem with my magic pad. I've given up and just gone back to a mouse. Rather disapointed in Apple...

I suggest that you take the trackpad back to an Apple store near you & exchange for a new one. They gave me a new one straight away after I explained the problem to them, no more QQQ asked. I therefore conclude that they knew there is a problem that they knew, perhaps mine was from a bad batch or something else.

I'm happy to report that I have no more problems with the new magic pad since.

Same thing happened to me. Apple Store swapped it out for a new one (today!), even though I didn't have receipt.

But now I can't get Mac Mini to recognize the new trackpad. May need to start new discussion.

(The issue we had was that trackpad was double-sensing. even though you were moving just 1 finger, it was reading 2, and thereby selecting and opening everything you rolled over.)

Same problem here since yesterday. My Magic Track doesn't stop clicking, every 1 or 2 minutes… I bought it in July last year. No problem since yesterday.

I've an iMac 2009 with Lion installed. I tried on another Mac and the problem was still here.

Looks like this is a widespread problem.

I bought my Magic Trackpad with an Apple iMac and it started randomly clicking about a month ago. I've just taken it to the Apple Store in Brent Cross and was refused a replacement because it was three weeks out of warranty so my advice would be to return any Magic Trackpads to Apple at the first sign of trouble, don't rely on them 'going the extra mile' as they might have done in the past.

    A disappointing experience.

    A quick fix for you to try;

If you have an iPhone in the room, turn it off.
My trackpad was going mental clicking by itself, I turned off my iPhone (4) and trackpad behaves normally.

Been watching a movie now for an hour and no 'magic' clicks.

This just seems FAR too ridiculous to be the problem, but would be interesting if a few of you guys could give it a try also.
