ipod screen red x
Ipod classic 160G is frozen. After reset, screen shows red "X" with a red circle around it.
I assume it is time to throw it away, irrepairable (or at least not cost effective to bother repairing it)?

Tried that, nothing.
Computer doesn't recognize ipod.
Reset only results in return to red x screen.
Someone suggested discharging the battery completely, then recharging completely and see what happens. That's hard to do if you can't activate the controls so as to get it into play mode, or any mode that will use up battery life.
